چکیده

The study of atomic and ionic lifetimes and transition probabilities has undergone a period of intense activity, facilitated largely by the application of the technique of Beam-Foil Spectroscopy. This area is now a mature field of study (having been pursued for 40 years), and has provided much new data, elucidated fundamental atomic processes, and furthered applications in many fields. However, technical advances have now broadened the field to permit new types of measurements of unprecedented accuracy and scope. Thus, this occasion offers an appropriate opportunity to review some of the successful applications of the method, to survey the present state of knowledge, and to indicate areas that hold promise for future

Radiative lifetimes in Co I

New radiative-lifetime measurements based on time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence are reported for 133 odd-parity and 2 even-parity levels of Co I, ranging in energy from 28 300 to 59 400 cm–1. Our lifetimes agree with earlier, but much less extensive, lifetime measurements based on laser-induced fluorescence. Satisfactory agreement is also found with the critical compilation of atomic tran...

IMPROVED LABORATORY TRANSITION PROBABILITIES FOR Pt i AND APPLICATION TO THE PLATINUM ABUNDANCES OF BD +17 3248 AND THE SUN

Radiative lifetimes, accurate to 5%, have been measured for 58 odd-parity levels of Pt i using laser-induced fluorescence. The lifetimes were combined with branching fractions measured using grating and Fourier transform spectrometry to determine transition probabilities for 127 lines of Pt i. The new Pt lifetime measurements were found to be in good agreement with previous but less extensive m...

Semi-empirical studies of atomic transition probabilities, oscillator strengths and radiative lifetimes in Hf II

Over the past few years, laser induced fluorescence and Fourier Transform techniques have been applied to measure radiative lifetimes and branching fractions in Hf II in order to derive oscillator strengths and transition probabilities. In the present work, we propose to compare for the first time these experimental data to computed values obtained by two different semi-empirical approaches, re...

بررسی ویژگیهای قدرت خط و نیروی نوسانگر اتمهای نقره و طلا با استفاده از نظریه تقریب کولنی

Single-valence electron atoms are an important class of atoms. Their oscillator strengths are their important properties. Knowing the oscillator strengths one can easity calculate the transition probabilities of the spectral lines and hence the lifetimes of energy levels of most atoms. The oscillator strengths of the spectral lines of most atoms are not knoen with sufficient accuracy due to t...

Cancellation Effects in Computed Atomic Transition Probabilities

— The common method of computing atomic transition probabilities involves the expansion of atomic wavefunctions in terms of single-configuration, LS-coupled basis functions. Calculated values are frequently rendered very unreliable by cancellation effects resulting from intermediate-coupling and configuration-interaction mixing of basis functions. Examples are discussed in the spectra of Ar I, ...
